Seven Seasons of American Schools of Oriental Research Excavations at Tell Qarqur, Syria: 1993-1999: In this report, Dornemann, Director of the excavations, presents in preliminary form the resumed work at this site in the Orontes Valley. First excavated by John Lundquist in 1983 and 1984, Tell Qarqur is probably to be identified with Karkara/Qarqar of the Neo-Assyrian texts of the ninth and eighth centuries B.C. After introductory discussions of the historical and archaeological setting of the Tell Qarqur region, Dornemann brings together the seven seasons of discovery, particularly the remains of the Iron and Bronze ages. Some Iron II and Early Bronze age pottery is presented. Sections include preliminary analysis of the botanical and zoological remains and an overview of the faunal material.
