Product Description: Einstein's Mirror is a book on relativity with a difference. Following the successful format of their earlier book, The Quantum Universe, the authors blend a simple, non-mathematical account of the underlying theory of special relativity and gravitation with a description of the way these theories have been triumphantly supported by experiment...read more (view table of contents, read Amazon.com's description)

Product Description: Richard P. Feynman made profoundly important and prescient contributions to the physics of computing, notably with his seminal articles “There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom” and “Simulating Physics with Computers.” These two provocative papers (both reprinted in this volume) anticipated, decades before their time, several breakthroughs that have since become fields of science in their own right, such as nanotechnology and the newest, perhaps most exciting area of physics and computer science, quantum computing...read more

Product Description: Grid computing is applying the resources of many computers in a network to a single problem at the same timeGrid computing appears to be a promising trend for three reasons:(1) Its ability to make more cost-effective use of a given amount of computer resources,(2) As a way to solve problems that can't be approached without an enormous amount of computing power(3) Because it suggests that the resources of many computers can be cooperatively and perhaps synergistically harnessed and managed as a collaboration toward a common objective...read more (view table of contents, read Amazon.com's description)

Intended as an accessible and practical introduction to gauge theories, this volume discusses the main conceptual aspects, examines the practical calculations of physical quantities and offers comparisons of these quantitative predictions with experimental results. This second edition assumes even less knowledge of particle physics and is intended for all levels from undergraduate to research. Background is provided to the main experimental results which substantiate the quark/lepton/gauge theory viewpoint, and to the theoretical tools. In particular, a low-level introduction is given to quantum field theory, a conceptual framework which is fundamental to the modern description of waves and particles. The formal development of field theory is strictly limited, however, and it is shown how calculations can be performed using the simpler "wavefunction" approach of Feynman. The book is one of a series designed primarily to meet the needs of postgraduate students, who might otherwise be faced with the task of acquainting themselves with a research topic by reading an advanced research text.
