What inspired me to begin writing poems? I grew up in a place called the hill district in Pittsburgh. It wasn’t normal and manly to express his true feelings, out of fear of being put down or run over. So I would write mine down on paper and start saving them from 1989 up until this date in time. My girlfriend encouraged me to write this book the moment she started reading pieces I had tucked in my dresser drawers. This book of poems is some of my true feelings being expressed.

Deborah J. Taranto thought when her mother joined her in New York, she’d finally be able to help her maintain her health. What she hadn’t considered was how she’d maintain her own health: Her mother’s deteriorating mind and constant demands made it almost impossible to get anything done. In this memoir, which includes numerous journal entries, she relives the guilt of struggling to take care of an elderly parent with Alzheimer’s who managed to raise a house full of children without complaints. From the classic behavior symptoms of dementia to her mother’s hilarious outbursts, she faces her mother’s mortality—as well as her own—head on, weaving symptoms into vignettes that highlight everyday challenges. Her account reveals the daily struggle of what it’s like to care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s and how the experience can affect family members long after a loved one has died. If you’re a caregiver or family member struggling to help someone navigate their final years with dignity, you’ll be inspired by the humorous and poignant tales in Nine Ways to Crazy.

When Becky Blades sent her firstborn daughter off to Harvard, she knew the world’s top-ranked college would not be covering the most important material: how to be kind, happy, and appropriate in public; how to protect oneself from sock monsters, boring conversations, and scary dates; and why you should keep your clothes clean. So the day before classes started, Blades emailed a good-bye letter with motherly advice she had kept to herself for a year. Just in time for her youngest daughter’s graduation from high school, Blades illustrated the prose with her signature mixed-media artwork, creating a thought-provoking, conversation-starting book. With warmth, wit, and a hint of motherly sass, Do Your Laundry, or You'll Die Alone: Advice Your Mom Would Give If She Thought You Were Listening blends bite-sized morsels of coming-of-age common sense such as Keep at least one stuffed animal, and A bad attitude makes your butt look big, with tiny essays on topics like forgiveness and phone etiquette.

On the one hand, many psychologists, especially those of the behaviourist school, tend to adopt what is essentially a materialistic position, as a matter of method if not of metaphysics. They make psychology increasingly dependent on physiology and external observation, and tend to think of matter as something much more solid and indubitable than mind. Meanwhile the physicists, especially Einstein and other exponents of the theory of relativity, have been making "matter" less and less material. Their world consists of "events," from which "matter" is derived by a logical construction. Whoever reads, for example, Professor Eddington's "Space, Time and Gravitation" (Cambridge University Press, 1920), will see that an old-fashioned materialism can receive no support from modern physics. I think that what has permanent value in the outlook of the behaviourists is the feeling that physics is the most fundamental science at present in existence. But this position cannot be called materialistic, if, as seems to be the case, physics does not assume the existence of matter.Notice: This Book is published by Historical Books Limited (www.publicdomain.org.uk) as a Public Domain Book, if you have any inquiries, requests or need any help you can just send an email to publications@publicdomain.org.uk This book is found as a public domain and free book based on various online catalogs, if you think there are any problems regard copyright issues please contact us immediately via DMCA@publicdomain.org.uk
