Christmas Summary Classics This series contains summary of Classic books such as Emma, Arne, Arabian Nights, Pride and prejudice, Tower of London, Wealth of Nations etc. Each book is specially crafted after reading complete book in less than 30 pages. One who wants to get joy of book reading especially in very less time can go for it. About The Book This famous book, of which the full title is "Aids to Reflection in the Formation of a Manly Character on the several Grounds of Prudence, Morality, and Religion," was published in 1825, nine years before the author's death. Its influence on thoughtful minds was very great, and many of the first divines of that period owed to it their profoundest religious ideas. It has been said that the fame of Coleridge (see LIVES AND LETTERS) as a philosophic thinker is not so great as it was during the twenty years immediately after his death; but one imagines that this statement merely means that not so many people now read Coleridge as did fifty years ago. The book, at any rate, has not yet been written which exposes a fallacy in his argument or demolishes his system. It should be remembered that this poet and searching thinker, to whom men like Wordsworth and Haslitt listened with reverence, was for some time in his life a Unitarian, and won to faith in the divinity of Christ by the use of his reason. Specimens of the Table Talk of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, which the poet's nephew and son-in-law, Henry Nelson Coleridge, published in 1835, was a popular book from the first, and has won the approval of two generations of readers. Unlike the Biographia Literaria, or the original and revised versions of The Friend, which never had their day at all, or the Aids to Reflection, which passed through many editions, but now seems to have delivered its message, the Table Talk is still well known and widely read, and that not only by students of literature. The task which the editor set himself was a difficult one, but it lay within the powers of an attentive listener, possessed of a good memory and those rarer gifts of a refined and scholarly taste, a sound and luminous common sense. He does not attempt to reproduce Coleridge's conversation or monologue or impassioned harangue, but he preserves and notes down the detached fragments of knowledge and wisdom which fell from time to time from the master's lips. Here are "the balmy sunny islets of the blest and the intelligible," an unvexed and harbourous archipelago.

Product Description: Excerpt: ...  Countless and vehement, the sons of God,   Our brethren! Like a cloud that travels on,   Steam'd up from Cairo's swamps of pestilence,   Even so, my countrymen! have we gone forth   And borne to distant tribes slavery and pangs,   And, deadlier far, our vices, whose deep taint   With slow perdition murders the whole man,   His body and his soul! Meanwhile, at home,   All individual dignity and power   Engulf'd in Courts, Committees, Institutions,   Associations and Societies,   A vain, speech-mouthing, speech-reporting Guild,   One Benefit-Club for mutual flattery,   We have drunk up, demure as at a grace,   Pollutions from the brimming cup of wealth;   Contemptuous of all honourable rule,   Yet bartering freedom and the poor man's life   For gold, as at a market! The sweet words   Of Christian promise, words that even yet   Might stem destruction, were they wisely preached,   Are muttered o'er by men, whose tones proclaim   How flat and wearisome they feel their trade:   Rank scoffers some, but most too indolent   To deem them falsehoods or to know their truth...read more

9781500273323 | Createspace Independent Pub, June 21, 2014, cover price $9.99 | About this edition: This collection of literature attempts to compile many of the classic, timeless works that have stood the test of time and offer them at a reduced, affordable price, in an attractive volume so that everyone can enjoy them.

This series aims to provide the student with accessible, annotated editions of key texts in English and American literature from the medieval to the modern period. "Lyrical Ballads" is one of the most famous collections of English verse ever published. Written jointly by Wordsworth and Coleridge, these poets' ambitious aim was to create a radically new kind of verse, addressing the concerns of ordinary humanity in the language of ordinary humanity. In addition to "The Ancient Mariner" and "Tintern Abbey", it includes such poems as "The Idiot Boy", "Nutting" and "Michael". This book reproduces a slightly modernised form of the 1805 text (the last prepared by the poets), including, in full, the poets' comments on their work.
